General medical services

  • General Consultation services: the hospital has a fully functional outpatient department for general nonspecific conditions of the whole body. It has medical professionals capable of handling any signs and symptoms, performing laboratory investigations, and prescribing accordingly.
  • Ear, Nose, and Throat (ENT) services: the hospital has ENT surgeons who diagnose and treat diseases of the ear, nose, and throat. Ear diseases include reduced hearing, tinnitus, infections of the ear (otitis media and otitis externa), wax impaction, foreign bodies in the ear, balance abnormalities, and trauma to the ear among others. Diseases of the nose treated include nose bleeding (medically called epistaxis), nasal polyps, trauma to the nose, nasal obstruction, and removal of foreign bodies among others. Diseases of the throat treated include tonsillitis, adenotonsillitis, removal of foreign bodies from the throat, voice box diseases, and treatment of thyroid diseases among others.
  • Diabetes Management: Lions eye hospital Loresho also provides care services for diabetic patients in the region at its diabetic care center. It offers general consultation services through its diabetic clinics, laboratory tests for diabetes such as checking sugar levels, HBA1C (a test for sugar abnormalities for the preceding 3 months and is diagnostic of diabetes if it’s above 6.5%)
  • Dental services: Lions Hospital Loresho also offers dental services such as treatment for dental caries, gingivitis, teeth filling, tooth extractions, teeth alignment, and maxillofacial surgeries among others.
  • Laboratory services: the laboratory at the hospital performs various blood tests, stool tests, and urine tests for the diagnosis of different diseases.

The hospital has various wards for admission and treatment of severe illnesses. It also features standard theaters for eye surgeries and other general surgeries. Consultation fees

The general consultation fee is Ksh 2,000 while the consultation fee for express clinics that are available on Wednesdays and Fridays from 2:00 to 4:00 pm is Ksh 3,500. Express clinics are run by eye specialists (ophthalmologists) and are less congested compared to the general clinics. The consultation fee changes from time to time and may also vary depending on your insurance cover. It is best to contact the hospital through the contacts below for real-time charges.  

Cost of treatment

The costs of treatment at the Lions Eye Hospital range from Ksh 10,000 to Ksh 500,000 depending on the condition you are being treated for. It costs about Ksh 80,000 for the treatment of a cataract in one eye and obviously Ksh 160,000 for cataract surgeries in both eyes.  

Insurance covers accepted at Lions SightFirst Eye Hospital

The Lions Eye Hospital accepts NHIF for payment for various services. It covers general consultations, laboratory services, medication, ward charges, and surgical operations. Those without the NHIF comprehensive cover, or those with the NHIF National scheme (Supa Cover) need to confirm with the hospital concerning what their insurance plan covers. It may not pay for specialist consultations, and some tests among other costs. The NHIF cover for those who are not civil servants covers for surgical operations at the hospital.
